DOOR & WINDOW MAINTENANCE
General Maintenance
- It is advisable to carry out routine maintenance at least once a year, although this may need to be done more frequently in coastal areas and areas of high exposure.
- As a general rule, all parts exposed when the window is closed should be washed down with warm soapy water using a soft cloth, rinsed well and rubbed dry.
- Avoid using ammonia based and abrasive cleaning agents, particularly on handles and other door furniture.
- It is advisable to remove any jewelry from your fingers and wrists whilst cleaning, to avoid scratching the glass surfaces.
- Parts exposed when the window or door is open should be wiped clean to remove grime from old lubricant, airborne debris and remnants of insect life.
- Special attention should be paid to keep the drainage channels clear of any blockages.
Moving Parts
Moving parts and fixing should be treated as follows;
- A very light application of petroleum jelly or equivalent will keep the locking mechanisms of both windows and doors in good working order.
- It is important to lubricate window hinges with either petroleum jelly or equivalent to ensure smooth opening and closing.
- Check that all screws are tight, especially on window handles.
Cleaning
- Regularly clean the window panes and uPVC frames with warm soapy water and rinse well.
- Avoid using cream or paste cleaning agents. Never use any type of bleach, solvent or abrasives.
